THE NEW ALBUM
Don't tell me that you haven't wanted to throw a chair after stuff like: Watching useless politicians do nothing about anything; dealing with an ex who's driving you crazy or you can't get over; some guy on the road almost hit you with his dumb sports car; you're broke this month just like the last 3 months. Maybe you're just mad for no reason.
Blah blah, blah, it's a long long list of shit.
I'm not really the chair throwing type, so I write instead. When I wrote these songs I was angry, but I was also lazy and didn't want to do anything about it (except write some songs haha).
It's no secret that some of the best art ever made comes out of pain and frustration. Sure we can get inspired by the happy times, but come on. When things are going good, it's hard to imagine screaming about it over three guitars playing at once, right? I mean you could, but...
Is it weird that we sometimes like when things are shitty? That it's comfortable when we reach a low point? Ya know, when there isn't a lot getting you out of bed. It could be depression, anxiety, an inferiority complex. Whatever. Maybe you just want to complain. It's complicated.
So this album is a little bit punk rock, a little alternative, and a lot of whining. I just went with the idea that sometimes things are out of our control. Honestly it was really freeing!
Sometimes the solution is just dealing with it (or writing about). Riding out the pain isn't always bad as long you can come out the other side. Ok, there are a few positive songs thrown in, but that's because I didn't want to drag you down completely.
If you're ready to let loose and scream, "LISTEN TO ME, I NEED YOU TO HEAR ME!" Even if it's just in your head, I got you.

The best way to describe ALTERNATIVE VOLUME 1 is this: it's like getting hit over the head with a 2x4 of dirt and grime and raw feelings, relentlessly. We pushed everything to the edge, cause why not. If the guitars could be louder and more distorted, we did it. If the bass could get dirtier, we went for it. You get the idea.
At the base of every song is guitar. The writing began in a room with acoustic. Eventually we pulled out the electric and then it got crazy. Some of the distortion is digital, some is out of the amp.
Once we figured out the drum vibe—big thumping beats combined with some live playing— the tracks really came to life. Last step: thumping, room-shaking bass and some ambient sounds.

Yeah. You're pissed off but don't do much about it. You deal with your anger by not caring that much. In the mornings you head out. All the people around you feel strange and you feel like a weirdo.
But you know what? They can just keep throwing obstacles in your way, or try to manipulate you. The landlord, the credit card companies, the bus schedule, the job you really don't want. They can try to convince you that you need a bunch of shit. You don't listen to them (well...not every time).
